Brown Sugar

What’s Sugaring?

Sugaring is a natural method of hair removal, made from just three ingredients. Lemon, water, and sugar. Sugaring does the same as traditional wax, by pulling hair out from the root. You’re still getting the same affect, but sugaring is a bit more gentle on the skin. It removes the hair while keeping the integrity of your skin, due to the paste being water soluble. So that means your wet skin cell layer should stay intact, and the sugar should only pick up the dead skin and the hair. Sugar minimizes lifting, tearing, breakage, and ingrowns. Overall sugaring tends to make your healing process a lot easier, and your experience a lot smoother!

How do I prep?

Preparing yourself for your sugaring service is quite easy! Start off with keeping the skin clean daily, exfoliating 2-3 times a week, and moisturizing your skin daily. If you are a shaver, put down the razor and let your hair grow! I promise its worth the wait. I recommend 14-21 days of hair growth when giving up the razor to make the big switch. If you plan on trying sugaring in the future start exfoliating your skin 2-3 times a week to start prepping. If your appointment is sooner than later no worries! Don’t exfoliate the day before or same day as a service, sugaring exfoliates and we do not want to irritate the skin by over exfoliating. Avoid heavy oils, lotions, make up, and deodorant if you have an appointment that day, these can affect the results of your service.

Commonly asked questions

I’m pregnant, can i get sugared?

Yes you can, but due to the change in hormone levels you are a lot more sensitive.

I’m currently on my menstrual cycle, can I still get sugared?

Yes it is! You are more sensitive due to the changes in your hormone levels, but you are definitely able to get sugared. During that time you are required to wear a tampon with any bikini/backside service to continue with the service.

Do you offer bikini services for male genitalia?

No I do not offer any bikini/backside services for male genitalia.

Does Sugaring hurt?

We are pulling your hair from the root, so yes naturally it’s not going to feel good, but overtime and with consistency it gets better and hurts less.

How often should I be getting sugared?

Every 4-6 weeks, unless we discuss otherwise.

How often should I exfoliate?

2-3 times a week.

Does sugaring help with ingrown hairs?

Yes sugaring can help minimize ingrown hairs, with the proper at home aftercare routine.

Can I react negatively to sugaring?

Yes just like with anything, you can always have a reaction. You can have irritation, redness, lifting or tearing of the skin, ingrowns, etc. These things do not happen often but can definitely still happen. Medication, skincare products, dry skin, eczema, psoriasis, among other things can sometimes cause mild irritation if mixed with hair removal.

Why sugaring over shaving or waxing?

Sugar is an all natural method of hair removal made from lemon, sugar, and water. It is water soluble. This means you should have minimum lifting and tearing, no burns, and no allergic reactions, but that doesn’t mean you won’t have a reaction. Overall its the more gentle bio degradable option. Wax is made with resins and dyes, 🙅🏾‍♀️ no thank you! It breaks more hair than sugaring, which means more ingrowns, and itchy skin. Shaving can cause razor burn, excessive ingrowns, and hyperpigmentation.

Can I come in, if i’m sick?

I ask that you please cancel, you will be turned away if you come in sick. I understand that colds/covid/flu tend to have some longer lasting symptoms even after you’re not contagious. So please wait until you are 72 hours fever and wet cough free. These symptoms can indicate you are still contagious. If you are excessively sneezing or coughing you may be asked to leave and reschedule.

How long does my hair have to be?

Your hair needs to be the length of a grain of rice, or about an eighth of an inch. If its long enough to pinch, its most likely long enough to sugar. I do require a minimum of 14 days from the last time you’ve shaved or trimmed down to the skin.

What is a regular maintenance range?

4-6 weeks with traditional waxing and sugaring.

Are masks still required in your studio?

Yes. Masks are provided if you forget one or no longer use them. They need to be worn the full duration of your appointment, and only taken off for the facial services that require them off.
